FAQ

All Your Questions About Prescriptions Answered

Compounded medication is a medication that is specifically prepared for you, based on a prescription from your doctor. Our pharmacists formulate it, and our team of trained compounders will create individualised medication for you. Medications are prescribed by your doctor based on your personal test results and are designed to treat your individual needs. As this medication has been specifically tailored to you, it is considered an unlicensed medication. Doctors may recommend unlicensed medications if they think it will treat your condition effectively. If you are concerned about this, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Bioidentical hormones are derived from diosgenin, which is sourced from Mexican yams or soy and then converted into hormones which are chemically identical to those the human body produces. They need to be prescribed by a doctor and bespoke prescriptions are designed for each individual patient.

No. It is the responsibility of the patient to see their doctor at the appropriate time for regular check-ups, and to ensure there is enough repeat medication before running out.

Forgetting to take your medicines at the normal time means they might not work as well as they should. If you regularly forget to take your medicines you should speak to a pharmacist as they may have suggestions to help you. If you forget to take your medicine you should be careful not to take doses too close together because you might get side effects. Don’t double your next dose to catch up. If you’re not sure, ask a pharmacist.

If you take your medication once or twice daily, take the missed dose now, as long as the next dose is not due within four hours.

If you take your medication more than twice in a day, it is best to skip the missed dose. After missing your dose continue to take your medication as normal.

You should always follow your doctor’s advice and they should be your first contact. Medications that can be brought over the counter should not cause any interactions with your hormone medication. Our team of pharmacists are available via email to assist with any queries you may have.

Apply the cream to clean, dry skin, for approximately 1 minute, preferably the thin skin on the inside of the forearm or inner thigh, unless directed differently by your doctor. The cream will take 30 minutes to absorb so please refrain from applying anything further during this time. Should you need to apply sunscreen please do so 30 minutes after you’ve applied your hormone cream. Never apply to broken or damaged skin and always wash your hands after applying hormone cream. More information is available in the patient information leaflets received with your medication.

Remove a single lozenge from the tray by pushing the underside until the lozenge pops out, cut the lozenge into the quarters if required to get the correct dose. Place the lozenge between your gum and upper lip. Allow the lozenge to dissolve completely, this process may take between 1-2 hours but is usually faster. If needed, lozenges can be cut into halves to allow them to dissolve faster. It is best to wait until 30 minutes after the lozenge is fully dissolved before eating or drinking, as this can affect the absorption of your dose. The patient information leaflet received with your order will provide more information, if you are still unsure, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
Your lozenges should be stored in the original lozenge tray and the outer sleeve, out of the reach and sight of children. Your compounded lozenges should be stored at room temperature (19-25c), ideally in a dry place and away from humidity or light. If you have any questions on storage please call the pharmacist team for more information.
The lozenge base does not contain aspartame. Our lozenges may contain a natural, plant based sweetener, Stevia, which is FDA approved. Various flavours and base options are available. For more information please ask your doctor or Specialist Pharmacy Patient Care Team when ordering your medication.
